Fijian Professional golfers Abid Hussain, Apenisa Koroicure, Tomasi Tuivuna and Zoheer Ahmad have all sealed a spot in the 2017 Fiji International at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course on 17 – 20 August following local qualifying at Denarau Golf & Raquet Club.

The final round got underway with conditions ideal for scoring and the course set up in pristine conditions.

Players found the going quite tough over the front-9 with overnight leader Abid Hussain shooting 3-over par and Apenisa firing 2-over par, however some players still managed to find birdies with Tomasi Tuivuna making the turn at 2-under and Amitesh Chandra from Laucala Island at 4-under.

Over the closing nine holes quite a few players came into contention, Denarau Professional Bill Sugutaraga, who played in the 2016 and 2015 Fiji Internationals, had hung tough but a double bogey on the 18th hole sunk his hopes.

Zoheer Ahmad fired 3-under on the back-9 to go with his front-9 of even par to book his place in the Fiji International, Tomasi Tuivune shot an even par back-9 to finish 70 and secure a berth.

Amitesh Chandra who finished with a 69 needed Apenisa Koroicure to bogey the last to have a chance of a playoff, however as Koroicure rolled in his par putt, Amitesh’s chances were gone and Apenisa Koroicure secured the final spot available.

Special thanks must go to Club Manager Tony Treeve and Golf Course Maintenance Manager Ryan Markwell for the great course condition, the length of the Denarau layout certainly challenged the players.

The four Professionals join Sam Lee in the Fiji International who secured his start as the leading local at the Fiji Open in May, all players will now be readying themselves to take on a field of talented golfers from all corners of the globe come August.
