Sanasana Rugby Team will take their game to a whole new level this season thanks to new training equipment from the Fiji International.

Fiji International organisers have presented the Sanasana Rugby Team with the training equipment to help them improve their competitive edge.

The division two team now has various different items for their training sessions including tackle bags, agility poles, defence suits, bungy ropes, training bibs, ladders, rugby balls and hit shields.

Members of the Sanasana Rugby Team and other villagers gathered together in the Sanasana Chief’s Bure to receive the training equipment presented by Harmony Thomas, Event Manager of the Fiji International.

A traditional kava ceremony was conducted to show the team’s appreciation for the support.

The team is excited to start using the equipment and hope to see improvements in their game due to the new equipment.

“On behalf of the people of Sanasana village, we wish to thank the organisers of the Fiji International for their continued display of goodwill and trust in the spirit of partnership,” said Moape Nagata, Spokesperson for Sanasana Village.

“It is our hope that the training equipment provided can help our rugby boys improve and climb further up the ladder of success in their division.”

In addition to the training equipment presented this year the Fiji International has proudly assisted the Sanasana Rugby Team the past two seasons with the provision of rugby jerseys and kit bags.

The relationship between the internationally renowned golf tournament and the Sanasana Village continues to flourish. The Fiji International also trains 60 villagers on the art of caddying, providing them with the unique and complex skill set required to work alongside some of the best golfers in the world during the tournament.

“We have completed four weeks of training with our first group of caddies and will be starting our second session for our second group next week,” said Harmony Thomas, Fiji International Manager.

“This training will provide them a better chance of being chosen to caddy for the Professionals during the Fiji International but hopefully also an opportunity to caddy for golf tourists who require assistance during their round.”

“The next stage for us is to share the information the Sanasana villagers who have completed the training program with inbound tour operators handling golf groups from Asia.”

Sanasana villagers have been a part of the Fiji International since its inaugural event in 2014 in various volunteer roles, ceremonial roles and paid employment via security and souvenir selling.
