American Brandt Snedeker has confirmed he will participate in the 2016 Fiji International to be played at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course from 6-9 October.
An immensely talented player, Snedeker is sure to excite golf fans in Fiji just like he did at the Canadian Open in July.
Just a day after he announced his trip to Fiji, Snedeker lead the PGA TOUR event into the final round.
While he was unable to secure his 12th Professional victory, Snedeker did move up the Official World Golf Rankings.
It also shows his game is in good shape heading into the Fiji International.
However if Snedeker hopes to be the second American to win the tournament, after Matt Kuchar won last year, he will need to overcome a talented field including some big hitting Australians.
The following players have all expressed their intent to tee it up in the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour co-sanctioned tournament.
Matthew Guyatt
From Queensland, Matthew is a talented player who has taken an interesting path to competing on Tour. A talented athlete, Matt was close to pursuing an Australian Rules Football career before opting to focus on golf. Rather than heading straight for life playing on Tour, Matt became a qualified golf coach. Joining the Tour in 2009, Matt recorded his first Professional victory at the 2011 NSW PGA Championship. Since then he has gone close to securing his second win and has contended in some of Australia’s biggest tournaments. This will be Matt’s third time competing at the Fiji International and his results have gotten better with each year. Finishing inside the top-10 last year, Guyatt could be a contender for the title this year.
Lincoln Tighe
From New South Wales, Lincoln may have the physique of a rugby player but he has the skill of a tournament winning Professional golfer. Renowned as one of the longest hitters on Tour, Lincoln always impresses and amazes fans with how far he can smash a golf ball. Having once hit his drive 400 metres in a tournament, Lincoln’s length off the tee will hold him in good stead on the long Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course layout. The 2014 New South Wales PGA champion comes into his third Fiji International campaign in good form, already in 2016 he has recorded a top-5 finish on the PGA TOUR China.
Andrew Evans
From New South Wales, Andrew is a star on the rise on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia. Turning Professional in 2009, Andrew was a regular on Tour but didn’t rise to prominence until last year. Playing at the Australian Masters, little known at the time, Andrew was a surprise contender for the title. His runner-up finish showed himself and the golfing world that he had the game to mix it with some of the best in the world. Since that tournament, he has recorded a number of good finishes on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and PGA TOUR China.
A strong field, headlined by Brandt Snedeker, is anticipated to tee it up in the Fiji International this year thanks to the new co-sanctioning relationship between the European Tour and ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.
